Emerald, the Gem fields and Clermont

The town of Emerald is the hub for the Central Highlands. The construction of Fairbairn Dam has allowed development and expansion of agriculture across the region. Large-scale coal mining providing a significant proportion of Qld’s coal exports also occurs here in the Bowen Basin.
Rubyvale and Sapphire are a gem fossickers haven.
Clermont was established in the 1860s when gold was discovered. A flood devasted the town in the early 1900s and it was moved to a higher location.
